Proposed Franschhoek Skytram

WITH regard to the Franschhoek Skytram development proposal the Advisory Board of the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve wishes to put the following on record:

1. The Board did not solicit this development proposal
2. The Board has no role in the decision-making process regarding the granting or denying of the environmental approval currently being sought. The sole decision maker in that regard is the National Department of Fisheries, Forestry and the Environment in Pretoria
3. The Environmental Impact Assessment and planning processes are strictly regulated and the Board will review the specialist reports and make substantive and informed comments as part of the public participation process.
4. Mont Rochelle is a municipal nature reserve. The Advisory Board does not own the land and hence cannot give permission for any development. Only the landowner can.
