Please note that the Franschhoek Pass is currently closed to the general public Monday to Saturday due to maintenance work. However, hikers with valid permits are permitted to access the pass under controlled conditions, as outlined below.
Permits
Until the end of February, all hikers must obtain a hiking permit as well as a pass access permit from Franschhoek Info in town. No permits will be issued at the reserve itself or online while the pass remains closed.
Access Procedure at the Pass
- Upon arrival at the bottom of the pass, hikers must present their pass access permit to the officials at the stop/go hokkie.
- A second official, located just after the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve turn-off, will check the permit and confirm the vehicle’s arrival at Mont Rochelle.
Control Sheet and Exit Procedure
All hikers are required to complete the control sheet at the stop/go. When exiting the pass following a hike, the pass access permit must be returned to officials at the stop/go.
Compliance and Monitoring
Pass access permits and control sheets are reconciled daily. If discrepancies are identified between permits issued and vehicles recorded on the control sheets, no further vehicles will be permitted to access the pass.
We appreciate your cooperation in following this process, which helps ensure continued access to the reserve during the maintenance period.
