BOTH the Winelands Trail, starting below Haute Cabriere, and Cats’ Path Trail will be closed until further notice due to continued roadworks on the Franschhoek Pass/R45.
We have received a formal request from the company working on the R45 to close the lower hiking trail from Franschhoek up the mountain towards the hairpin at the water spring. This closure is necessary due to major safety concerns raised by the consultant: during the process of de-barring rocks from the slopes, rocks may roll down at dangerous speeds and pose a serious risk to hikers.
Although safety precautions will be in place, isolating the trail is the only reliable way to ensure public safety. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this period.
